Our Very First Post!

Thank you for visiting our blog!

It is with excitement and nervousness that we are writing our first blog post ever!! After being inspired by reading and visiting many other teaching blogs, we wanted to create our own so that we can share our ideas and pictures with other teachers. Cara, from The First Grade Parade, did an absolutely beautiful job creating our blog design. Thank you so much, Cara! She was so sweet and we really enjoyed working with her!

We hope you feel like a kid in a candy store as you read our ideas and get inspiration for your lesson plans!! First item up on on our menu is our Smart Little Cookies lesson plan!

My third graders just finished their week of state testing! Students began by writing a "recipe" using study and work habits of smart students as the ingredients.

Students get "cooking" and make their cookie.

Chocolate chip and "striped" cookies were clearly a favorite among these kiddos!

This student included the following ingredients:
1 cup of hard work
2 tablespoons of confidence
1/2 math problems
 Mix well and stir!

Finished Project: A bulletin board so cute you will want to eat it!!

During our testing week, students were also surprised to receive a "confidence booster" from their parent! I assigned "Top Secret: Parent Homework" the week before testing. Students were SO excited to give their PARENTS homework! (I think the parents really enjoyed this, too!)
This smart little cookie was lucky enough to get a real Mrs. Field's cookie in his surprise letter which was to be eaten after testing, of course! :)

The letters were so sweet even I had tears in my eyes!!

We hope that you got a "taste" for what to find on our blog! :)

I love the smart cookie idea!! My little firsties will be finishing up our unit on capacity soon. I think I will try and have them do something similar using their knowledge of measurement now. Thanks for the great idea. I love your blog!!
