Marc introduced himself and his new book, read the story to the audience, discussed the evolution of Arthur and then shared some tips on how to draw Arthur!
Look at how easy he makes it look!
Love how he used "two ping pong paddles" to describe how to draw Arthur's ears!
Check out the clip of Marc reading his new book!
Marc was super nice! He took time to talk, personalize, and sign our (4 total!) books.
We even got to shake his hand! :)
Of course, this meet and greet inspired a new Earth Day lesson we planned together on our car ride home at 10:00pm!
Maybe it was the excitement of the night or the rest and relaxation of our Spring Break, but we were brave enough to try this with our students today:
Our students, literally, turned greeeeen!
Well...not really, but, their hands got very green when painting "land" to make Earth on paper plates!
We used paintbrushes for the oceans, because, you know, we didn't have any reason to turn blue :)
We learned about the ways that Arthur turned green throughout the book and then cut out sentences that described what he did to help the planet, such as turning off the water when he was brushing his teeth!
And yes, these students followed the directions EXACTLY! They used green construction paper to illustrate how Arthur LITERALLY turned green :)
Completed bulletin board!
Thank you, Mr. Brown, for inspiring us to take care of our Earth!
No need to be green with envy that we were able to meet Marc!
We were thinking of YOU!
We have one autographed copy of Arthur Turns Green, dedicated to a "Super Duper Teacher" that we are giving away!!! We will SHIP YOU a nice, shiny, hardback copy of the new book that touched Marc's hands :) We will also provide you with a copy of our Arthur Turns Green lesson!

I am so excited that you were able to meet Marc Brown. Four years ago, at the K conference in Las Vegas, I was honored to spend some time with him at the airport, as his flight was delayed and my kids at school had sent me to the conference, and he found out about it. He is one of the nicest people I have ever met. I have about 200 Arthur dolls (literally), yes, I know..I wear that Arthur FREAK flag, lol..and he's been my classroom mascot for over 25 years. Anyway, so excited about your unit and I follow your blog and LOVE it! Thanks for the chance for this awesome giveaway!
Ladies,
If by chance I don't win this book I fully intend to buy it. You should create an Amazon account so that I can click on the Arthur book from your site and you can get part of the profit!! Look into it! It is much easier than one would think. If you did that for every book you featured it could be worth it.
