The A,B,C’s and 1,2,3’s of our Spring Break

As we were watching the Blackhawks playoff game tonight my daughter started yelling and jumping up and down.  She said she saw our little guy's picture on the Comcast Blackhawks Fan of the Week commercial.  We looked at her like she was seeing things, but she insisted we rewind our DVR and--can you believe it---his picture was there on the screen TWICE!!!!  They were pictures I had taken when the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup in 2010.  Crazy!!

I scored some great seats (and paid a pretty penny for them) from Craigslist. Well worth the money!  The Bulls won against the New York Knicks-awesome game!

My cousin, Kim, has the BEST baking blog on the web called Just Baked and with a little extra time off for spring break I thought I would try one of her cookie recipes.  Sounds simple, right?  Well, someone {???} in our house ate half the bag of chocolate chips so we piled into the car and headed to the store to pick up another bag.  After this quick trip, I pressed the button to open the garage and the whole top panel of the door popped off and swung out on its one remaining hinge!
Now, I will go on record saying that there was a small red flag...when I closed the garage door when we left for the store it may have made a loud, bending metal-type sound.  But---at that moment we all had cookies on the brain and the door sort of looked ok when we left.  Sort of.
Anyways, I ran to grab the dangling panel as my daughter headed down the block to get help.  After over an hour of trying to fix it with some sweet neighbors, an unpleasant visit from the garage door guy, no dinner and bedtime in the very near future, we decided to set aside our feelings of frustration and go with one of my favorite phrases...Cookies Fix Everything.  We went back to our original plan and baked a big batch of Kim's Hunka Chunka Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies.  The three of us laughed as I told my little ones to enjoy these cookies because they were baked with the most expensive bag of chocolate chips they've ever had.  I'm not so sure daddy will find the humorous side of these costly chocolate chips when he sees the estimate for the new garage door.  Hopefully the delicious taste of these cookies will linger and hold him over until Thursday when they come to install the new door!

Marie is one of my oldest friends-we were in the same kindergarten class and brownie troop {and we know way too much information about each other’s high school and college years!}. She is a teacher, too, and a new mom!  She just gave birth a week ago to a beautiful baby boy, Parker! After hearing the birth story, I don’t know how all you moms out there do it!! WOW!

I am so excited for her and her husband!

Marie has Parker’s room decorated in primary colors and Seasame Street.
I couldn’t resist posing with him and Big Bird! Smile

And much more than two hours of talking each time! Smile
(And, if you noticed, Melissa colored her hair- bye-bye blond!)

...we chatted after I told Melissa I should probably head home.
In our defense, we were hard at work before the chitter chatter began and here's the proof:
