Random Acts of Kindness Day 8

Melissa and I have both been trying to instill in our students the idea of doing good things for others and paying it forward when something nice is done for them.  My students and I recently talked about the different people at school who help take care of the building and we focused our attention on the evening custodians.  Like Melissa mentioned in an earlier post, the kids are really focused on picking up any scraps and pencils that are left on the floor after a hard day's work.  We decided to take our cleaning a step further by putting together the "Kindness Krew".  Small groups of kids had different jobs-2 kids were the trash collectors, 1 left a gift bow on each garbage can, and 1 was the speaker.  These small groups went from classroom to classroom, emptying the trash cans and recycling bins in each and leaving a simple gift bow on them for the custodian to find.

The kids are so excited to hear how this made the night custodian feel!

On a side note, this was also a great opportunity for the students to see how much trash we go through in one day!!!!!  Yikes!!

I absolutely love this! Especially the "Kindness Krew". I have been spending a lot of time stopping to "smell the roses" with my kids through community building, classroom meetings and lessons on respect. These ideas are wonderful and it is true when they say that kindness leads to kindness. Thank you for sharing!
