The second graders did such a good job by drawing the “mirror image” or symmetrical half of SpongeBob! I asked the nice teacher (thank you, Krista!) if I could use the template for my big third graders.
And of course, my third graders had a blast with it!
We actually turned it into a symmetrical drawing and coloring contest. The kids kept their SpongeBob private as they were working and posted their final drawing on the bulletin board when they finished.
One at a time the students came up to vote for what SpongeBob was the best representation of mirror symmetry.
I then asked two of my students to tally the votes. They made a graph and announced the results.

What a great idea on symmetry. Thanks for sharing! I use Sponge Bob to measure area and permiter. I have my students draw the character out on grid paper. Then, they count up all the squares.
