No Monkey Business Here!

On Pintrest, I saw a picture of a bulletin board labeled, Don't Monkey Around, Reach Your Goals! The teacher took pictures of her students hanging from the monkey bars.

LOVED IT! Brilliant! After all, how on earth can little ones not be inspired to write after hanging upside down and all around on the MONKEY BARS??? Especially if your teacher is busy saying "freeze!" to try and get a snapshot?

Before starting our writing piece, we brainstormed why third grade was serious business. Homework almost every night, responsiblities of filling out assingment notebooks, learning new material- I mean, come on...no time for any monkey business here!

Warning: Do not take pictures of students on the monkey bars if any other classes are also outside. I think that we made quite the commotion and had lots of students from other grades trying to get in the pictures! (can't blame 'em!) Little did they know this was actually our part of our brainstorming for our writing!

Before I took my class outside for their picture, I had them practice their pose at recess earlier that day. They perfected their pose, that's for sure!

One of my students asked me if I was going to get hang on the monkey bars and very kindly volunteered to take MY picture. Thanks, but no thanks. :)

Because, I am the one who should be serious about teaching, right?

Check out this student's writing:
Don't monkey around. We're serious about school. I always bring my homework home. I always don't talk when the teacher is talking. (We know what he means!) I do my classroom promise. I do my serious business. I sign my assignment notebook. And the star folder. We did a teacher test. School homeowrk is serious business. It's fun in 3rd grade!

I think the parents really got a kick out of reading these! I had their pictures on display for Parent Night.

Now, it's time for ME to get serious and finish some school work so that I can enjoy the finale of Big Brother! Now that Jordan and Jeff are gone, I can't say I care who wins! :)

Love this! I did a goal setting activity at the beginning of the year. However, I think I will need to do another one soon to remind them to stay focused.

Thanks for sharing!

So stinking cute. I can't wait to use this for writing. We have persuasive writing coming up and this might just do the trick. Very cute idea!!!
