Moments Like This…

There are some days when you experience those “THIS is why I am a teacher moment.”  I had one of those moments on Friday.

Remember when I donated supplies for our local animal shelter? Well, I shared those pictures with my students because I was hoping to inspire them to donate their time/money to a cause they were passionate about. Well, it just so happens that one of these little girls had her birthday party at the animal shelter!

Better yet, instead of accepting gifts for herself, she had her friends bring in supplies that the animals needed. During her “party,” the girls cleaned cages, kept the kittens company, and walked the dogs. Can you imagine how much our world would benefit if each child just had ONE of these birthdays in their lifetime!?!

Last Friday, these girls showed me they were making “Duct tape pens” and selling them for $1.50. They asked me if I wanted to buy one to “help save the animals at the animal shelter” because they were donating all their proceeds to the animal shelter. I had tears in my eyes! Smile When I asked them who else they would be selling the pens to, they said their friends. I encouraged them to put their persuasive skills to the test and write a letter to our principal, trying to persuade him to let them sell the pens to the staff at our school. It worked! They placed the display in the picture above in our staff lounge.

It makes me so happy to see kids making a difference in this world!!!

In other news…we added a new file…Lovin’ Leprechauns to our TpT store.

After reading a few stories about those sneaky leprechauns, we brainstormed the character traits that described them.

How sweet! Sometimes we forget how much of an impact we have on not just their academics, but their overall character. You must be so proud.:)

Your heart must just swell over stories like this. Mine did. I cannot imagine how overjoyed I would be if my kids or kids in our (soon to be) after school program listened and put into action something so amazing! This is wonderful!
