I certified last year on my first time as well. It's the one thing that I can honestly say I did on my own! I didn't have a mentor--I didn't have anyone read my papers. It was just me, my thinking, my students, and the standards. It was an intensely rigorous and rewarding year. It really makes you think about your teaching.

I certified in 2009 on my first try in Early Childhood. I was also the very first in my district to achieve this! One of the BEST experiences of my career. I recommend it to every teacher.

I had never heard of the National Boards until recently... my best friend since kindergarten is beginning hers so I'll see how she does before I consider it! hehe =)

I certified in 2008! It was literally my "baby" for a year...I was a horrible friend to everyone during that time - I missed so many birthdays, baby showers, and bridal showers because of it...lol

I certified last year on the first try. It was truely a rewarding process. I learned a lot about myself and my teaching style. While I didn't miss too much of my kids events, I spent a lot of long nights working and revising. In the end cutting 6 pages out of one entry, and 4 out of another. I would totally recommend going through the process!

I certified last year. Passed the first go round, but who knows how! Luckily my writing is better than my study skills which are nonexistent. What's scared me was that I had just submitted my packet in Middle childhood then found out I was moving to 2nd grade! I was terrified I'd have to borrow kids to retake something! Every bit worth it-we get 12% pay increase for now-professionally and personally

I certified last on my first try. I am a better writer and I think through my lessons more. Sadly, with budget cuts, none of the NBCTs in my school district get a stipend anymore!

I have been thinking about doing this (I'm in my 8th year of teaching), but my daughter is a senior so I'm skittish right now! I hope to go through the process sometime and hopefully with a friend!! :)

I'm in the process of renewing my certification right now. I have just about 6 weeks left in the process and so much left to do. Luckily, it is NOTHING like the original round!!

Hi!

I just found your blog today {and LOVE it}. I've been certified for many years. I'm so glad you wrote this post. I think it's important to spread the word about the process and benefits of National Boards. It also totally changed the way I teach. I felt like I was holding down two jobs as I went through the process, but so glad I did it. I'm your newest follower.
